Independent Practicum

The registration requirements for dietitians in Ontario include requirements related to education and training.  These requirements are necessary to ensure that dietitians have the knowledge, skills and judgment to provide safe, competent and ethical dietetics services.

An Independent Practicum is Not Accredited

An Independent Practicum is a series of supervised practical training experiences, organized by an applicant in order to meet the practical training requirements for registration as a dietitian in Ontario.  Because this practical training is not accredited or associated with an education institution, the applicant is required to submit information and documentation about their experiences.  The College will assess the applicant’s practical training against the national standards required of a new graduate in Canada.

The College of Dietitians of Ontario is not an Education Institution

The College of Dietitians of Ontario is the regulatory body for Dietitians in Ontario. The College’s role is to set the standards for registration, including education and training requirements, and to assess applicants against those standards.

An applicant who is pursuing an independent practicum is not under the supervision or guidance of the College.
