Are you interested in having an impact on the future of professional self-regulation? Governance modernization is part of the College’s 2020-2024 strategic plan and the College is looking for Registered Dietitians who want to take a leadership role and help shape the future of dietetics in Ontario.

Deadline For District 7 Council Election is June 4, 2021

If you are a dietitian looking for a rewarding opportunity to contribute to public protection and professional self-regulation, nominate yourself for election on College Council by June 4, 2021. See the details below.

WHAT IS COUNCIL?

Council is responsible for governing the College and regulating Ontario’s dietetic profession in the public interest. It sets the College’s strategic direction, monitors its activities, establishes by-laws, standards and regulatory policies. Council is composed of approximately15 councillors – eight elected dietitians and five to seven members of the public appointed by the government.

COUNCILLORS RECEIVE AN HONORARIUM

Councillors receive an honorarium for expenses related to College work including meeting preparation, meeting time, travel, accommodation and meals.

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED

Councillors commit a significant amount of time and have flexibility in their schedule to accommodate meetings and other College obligations.

Council meets at least four times a year. Currently, these two-day meetings take place virtually, however, the College will resume in-person meetings when it is safe to do so. Attendance at Council meetings is expected. Preparation time for meetings is typically 5-7 hours.

In addition to meetings, Council participates in regular training and workshops, which are held virtually and in-person (when it is safe to do so). These half-day to full-day sessions take place in between Council meetings and are scheduled as needed. Attendance at training sessions and workshops is required.

In addition to Council meetings, councillors must sit on at least two committees. The time commitment for each committee varies based on the workload. The table below gives a general idea of the time commitment expected for each committee.

If you are considering running for election, discuss the time commitment with those who may be affected, such as your employer. If elected, it is important that you participate on Council and committees.

Currently, all committee meetings are being held virtually.
