newly appointed to the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee
The Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, requires the College to investigate complaints about members' professional conduct, competence or fitness to practice. The complaint process is designed to ensure procedural consistency and fairness to both the complainant and the member who is the subject of the complaint. The role of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee is to ensure that complaints are handled in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
Dietitians can have an impact on how their profession is regulated by serving on College committees, which are composed of RDs elected to Council, public appointees and appointed RDs. Appointed committee members draw on their professional knowledge and judgment to help develop regulations, programs and policies for the delivery of safe, ethical and quality dietetic service.
Barbara Grohmann, MHSC, RD
Barbara obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition and Food and a Masters of Health Science in Nutrition Communications, both at Ryerson University. She also completed the IOC Sport Nutrition Diploma in 2011, and is currently working towards a graduate certificate in Regulatory Affairs from Algonquin College.
Since becoming an RD, she has worked in long-term care and in food regulations projects, providing advice and recommendations on Canadian food regulations to various international companies. As a consulting dietitian, she has provided temporary, vacation and ongoing coverage in over 12 facilities in Southern and Northern Ontario. During that time, she has precepted nutrition students completing their practicum for their MHSc and supervised/mentored food service management students. Barbara has also served as an assessor for the College’s Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) for Internationally Educated Dietitians.
