Standards

& Ethics

The standards of the dietetic profession in Ontario are set out in a variety of documents. These include the Code of Ethics, Professional Practice Standards, College regulations made under the Dietetics Act, 1991, the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, and other relevant legislation. Together, they set a level of practice that ensures client safety.

Registered Dietitians have a responsibility to follow workplace rules and standards as long as the obligations of the facility are not contrary to the dietetic Code of Ethics, the regulations defining professional misconduct and other federal or provincial laws. It is very important for dietitians, as well as their employers, to have a good understanding of the laws and regulations that affect dietetic practice.
