Council Member Updates

WELCOME NEW PUBLIC APPOINTEES

Douglas Ellis, Public Member

Douglas (Doug) Ellis, CFP, CPCA, BA is proud to have been in the retirement planning business since 1997. He received his PFPC certificate in 2006; Certificate in Financial Counselling in 2008; his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 2010; and Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA) in 2020. 
 
During his tenure with Sun Life, Doug launched Ironside Financial Solutions Inc. in 2018 — a corporation dedicated to providing tax-efficient solutions to local area business owners in the field of group benefits, group retirement strategies, and executive compensation arrangements.

As an active member of his community, Doug presently serves on the Board of Governors for Ontario Tech University, and continues to support many charitable causes, including the United Way of Durham and Their Opportunity – Durham.  Over the years, Doug has been a guest speaker on topics of financial literacy for the Firehouse Youth Club of Bowmanville, and business planning for the Business Advisory Council of Durham.
 
Outside of the office, Doug is a Corporal with the Canadian Armed Forces, presently serving as a Reservist with the Ontario Regiment – RCAC, in Oshawa. When it is time to relax, Doug enjoys reading, hiking or playing a round of golf at one of the local courses. 

Sharanjit Padda, Public Member

Sharanjit (Shan) Singh Padda, MBA, LL.B., is a Barrister, Solicitor, and Notary Public. He is a member in good standing with Law Society of Ontario and has been practising immigration law in Ontario for more than fifteen years. Shan has been employed by regional municipal government and multinational and Canadian corporations. He also serves as a volunteer on the board of directors for the Canadian Federation of Truckers, GTB Foundation, and a condo corporation in Brampton.
 
In recognition of his outstanding service to the community, Shan received the Governor General Commemorative Medal during the 125th Anniversary of Canada. In 2002, he was honored with the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal from the Governor General of Canada. He is a Past Chairperson, Board of Referees, of the Employment Insurance Appeal Tribunal, Canada, and a Past Council Member of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

WELCOME BACK

Ann Watt, RD

Ann Watt, who was acclaimed Member of Council in February 2022, holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition from the University of Guelph and a Masters of Science degree from Brescia University College.

Her career in dietetics has provided the opportunity to work in diverse practice environments, including the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, Home and Community Care, Public Health, Private Practice, Long Term Care and as a Faculty Member at Brescia University College. In 2011, Ann transitioned to Health Care Leadership at the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance and has worked as the Manager of the Huron Perth Diabetes Programs, Dialysis, Clinical Nutrition and Nutrition and Food Services. Ann also volunteers as a Director on the Board at The Local Community Food Center in Stratford.

Ann is honoured to be serving a second term on council and is enthusiastic about participating in the new phase of governance modernization. She is looking forward to working together to implement the strategic priorities of Council, while working diligently towards the College’s goal of providing safe, ethical, and competent nutrition care for the people of Ontario.

Megan Charlish, MPH, RD

We wish to thank Megan Charlish, MPH, RD for her service to the public as a member of the Professional Practice Committee. Megan had supported the College’s Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition process since 2016 and was appointed to the Committee in 2019. We wish her well in all her endeavours.
