Regulation Matters 2020 - Issue 2, August

Council Highlights

These Council highlights relate the meeting which took place on June 19th, 2020. See the agenda here.

Council governs the College and works in the public interest to regulate the dietetic profession in Ontario to ensure the public has access to safe, ethical and competent nutrition care, in keeping with the objects listed in the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991. Learn more here.

Election of the Executive Committee

Council elected the following councillors to serve on the Executive Committee:

  • Lesia Kicak RD – President
  • Teresa Taillefer RD – Vice-President
  • John Regan, Public Member
  • Kerri LaBrecque RD

Revision of College By-Laws and Council’s Policy Governance Manual

Council approved, in principle, revisions to its by-laws for consultation with members. The College by-laws and Council’s Policy Governance Manual  are being revised to ensure that they reflect governance best practice, address recent changes to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, and that they are simple, flexible, and easy to understand. Council will consider draft revisions to its Policy Governance Manual at a subsequent meeting.

Reduction or Waiver of Annual Fee for Reinstatement During Pandemic

Council approved the waiving of the annual fee for members who have previously resigned or retired and who would like to be reinstated for the sole purpose of providing healthcare support during the pandemic. These applicants must have current dietetic knowledge and skills, and meet all the College’s non-exemptible registration requirements. Fees will be waived only for applicants returning to practice who are specifically applying to assist the Ontario healthcare system during the Covid-19 pandemic. This will not apply to individuals returning to their previous employment after being on leave.
