This fall our two practice advisors are hitting the road for our workshop series on ethics based on the newly redeveloped Code of Ethics. The new Code is likely both familiar and unfamiliar. What does it mean to be ethical?

Generally, dietetic counselling is not psychotherapy unless a dietitian is using recognized psychotherapeutic techniques or interventions to treat clients who are impaired by serious disorders. Read this article for more details.

A new law, effective July 1^st, applies to everyone but may have special application to health care practitioners. 

Registration with the College is required for dietitians outside of Ontario who provide dietetic services to clients in Ontario through virtual means (e.g. phone, online, etc.). Dietitians who are registered outside of Ontario who provide (even short-term) in-person dietetic services and/or use the dietitian title within Ontario, must also be registered with the College.

When reporting their professional hours to the College, some dietitians are confused about what counts as practice and what is professional development. The purpose of this article is to explain the difference between professional practice hours and professional development.

We have been receiving calls from dietitians who wish to know when they were first registered with the College. Did you know you can find this information on the Register of Dietitians?

We thank all outgoing Council and committee members for their valued contributions to College work. The participation of dietitians is at the heart of self-governance and essential in assuring that professional standards and all College products and activities align with current, ethical and safe dietetic practice for public protection. 

Council met for the Annual Meeting on June 20^th and for its regular meeting on June 21^st.

Due to vacancies, Council directed the Registrar & ED to hold elections in District 3 and a by-election in District 4. Here are the results.

Using the title dietitian in Ontario is prohibited under the Dietetics Act, 1991, unless a person is a member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario. See the names of new members and of members who retired, resigned, or who were suspended between April 24 to September 29, 2019.
