Welcome to new Appointed Committee Members Hannah Chan, Jane Lac and Laura Bjorklund.

Hannah Chan, RD

Hannah Chan is a strategic leader with high-profile policy and program development experience, and a demonstrated ability to use evidence to evaluate and improve policies and programs in a diverse array of focus areas related to nutrition, health promotion, and health communications.

She holds a Master of Public Health degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with a Collaborative Specialization in Global Health from the University of Toronto and completed the UBC Farm Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture. She is currently a Project and Communications Coordinator in the Ontario Cabinet Office.

Hannah is also dedicated to lifelong learning and stays actively involved in various and diverse professional communities, including the Food Secure Canada Youth Caucus Executive Committee, Young Diplomats of Canada, and the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research.

Jane Lac, RD

 

Jane Lac (she/her) is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator practising in primary health care in Ontario. Previously, Jane has accumulated a wide range of experiences in nutrition research, programs and policies, community and hospital, and international dietetics practising in England and Scotland as a paediatric locum dietitian. In addition to her primary care role, Jane works with an integrative clinic focused on supporting individuals with gastrointestinal issues.

Currently, Jane is the Secretary of World Critical Dietetics, and has organized and hosted their online conference in 2021 attracting international presenters and participants. She has also co-published a journal on increasing the racial diversity in dietetics.

As a first-generation post-secondary graduate, Jane holds a Master of Public Health in Nutrition and Dietetics from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, her dietetic internship from SickKids Hospital, and her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Nutrition and Food and Bachelor of Life Science from Toronto Metropolitan University and McMaster University, respectively.

Laura Bjorklund, RD

Laura Bjorklund completed her undergraduate degree in Applied Human Nutrition at the University of Guelph and her dietetic internship at London Health Sciences Centre. She then worked as a Registered Dietitian in diabetes education and became a Certified Diabetes Educator before returning to the University of Guelph to complete her Master of Science degree.

Laura has since been working as a Registered Dietitian in the Algoma Regional Renal Program and at the Superior Family Health Team, both in Sault Ste Marie. Laura is a faculty member at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, where she participated in undergraduate medical education as well as act as a site coordinator for the Northern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program.
