In December 2020, the Ontario Ministry of Health launched a new reporting tool for colleges, the College Performance Measurement Framework (CPMF), to improve its evaluation of regulated health profession colleges. The new tool was developed by the Ministry with Ontario’s health regulatory colleges, subject matter experts and the public.

The Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP) released the new Integrated Competencies for Dietetic Education and Practice (ICDEP v. 3.0) in July 2020. PDEP is made up of Dietitians of Canada (representing the profession), the provincial dietetic regulators, and the dietetic academic and practical training programs in Canada. As a partner organization within PDEP, the College has been fortunate to be part of the revision process and we are excited about the new competencies!

Recently, we received a report from the Chief Coroner of Ontario prepared by the Geriatric and Long-Term Care Review Committee (GLTCRC) resulting from the inquiry into the death of a 76-year-old male resident in a long-term care (LTC) home. The report included recommendations for more detailed documentation of oral intake of food and fluid for long-term care residents.

The College recently published the Standard for Dietitians Practising Through Delegation of Controlled Acts which includes the required elements and performance expectations that dietitians must achieve when doing these tasks. This is timely. Due to the pandemic dietitians are assisting with tasks that are not typically part of the dietetic scope, and some of these tasks are “controlled acts”.
