RDs have a legal and professional responsibility to obtain consent when practicing dietetics.
The fundamental principles and laws about consent are all based on respect for a client's right to make informed decisions about their care.
Clients have a right:
- to clear and complete information
- to be involved in all decisions concerning their treatment, and
- to accept or refuse treatment.
