Deion Weir

I am excited to apply for a council position at the College of Dietitians of Ontario. I previously served on council from June 2010 to June 2013 and June 2016 to June 2019, where I held various roles including Council President in 2017-2019. I am pleased to see the implementation of the new council structure and elections process, which is consistent with recent changes in regulation.

I graduated from the Toronto Metropolitan University and completed my dietetic internship with the Toronto Shared Dietetic Internship Program. I later obtained my Master's Degree at Central Michigan University where I investigated the efficacy of early oral feeding post lower gastrointestinal surgery and presented my research at the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, Nutrition Week 2007. I have held various clinical dietetic and leadership positions. I have practiced as a clinical dietitian for over thirteen years and then moved into leadership roles. I have served as the professional practice leader for the clinical dietitians at Humber River Hospital and Oak Valley Health. I provided leadership for clinical dietetic education and I am committed to enhancing the training of future dietitians. I developed workshop training material and education curriculum for the Internationally Educated Dietitians Preregistration Program at Chang School of Continuing Education at the Toronto Metropolitan University and Dietitians of Canada. I currently work as Patient Care Manager for Inpatient Allied Health staff including dietitians at Oak Valley Health.

I am passionate about the provision of safe, competent and ethical patient care. I believe that as a member of Council for the College of Dietitian of Ontario I can participate in decisions that will enable dietitians across Ontario to deliver the best care to clients. My extensive work and volunteer experience allows me to positively contribute to the regulatory work of the College of Dietitians of Ontario
